U3A CASUAL CYCLING GROUP - WHAT DO WE DO?
We ride out, on the 2nd & 4th Mondays of each month, usually between 10 and 25 miles. Sometimes from Steyning, sometimes we will drive somewhere to start our ride. Some members have bike racks on their cars which helps when we wish to start away from Steyning.
We aim for cycle paths (like the Downs Link, Centurion Way, Cuckoo Trail or Sussex Coast Path) and quiet roads wherever possible. We don't ride fast, it's a leisurely pace to enjoy our surroundings. Our destination is usually a cafe for refreshment and conversation before the return journey.
When the group started it was all push bikes, but as time passes the majority ride e-bikes. E-bikes aren't a substitute for cycling; they're an alternative to not cycling. They make possible, or more practical, the cycling journeys that many people couldn't or wouldn't otherwise do. There are still a few stalwarts in the group using solely human power!
The focus is on gentle exercise and sociability.
